Revive

Revive brings back video games that can no longer be played, using only the gameplay footage that survives on YouTube.

Core trick

Gemini watches all surviving videos in one long-context call, then a builder agent rebuilds the game and checks each rule against timestamped footage.

Description

Revive brings back video games that can no longer be played, using only the gameplay footage that survives on YouTube. Gemini 4 Argon finds a lost game's surviving videos and watches all of them in a single call, using its 1-million-token context and long-video understanding to turn hours of footage into a timestamped spec of how the game looked, played and felt. An Argon builder agent then rebuilds the game as a multiplayer browser game, playing its own build as it goes and asking the original footage whenever it's unsure. Every playtest round checks the result in two ways. A footage check replays each rule in the rebuild and has Argon judge it against the exact moment in the original. Meanwhile, Gemini Managed Agents, each in its own cloud sandbox, join one match over the internet to hunt for bugs nobody ever filmed. What doesn't match the original goes back to the builder first, regressions included, and the round people play is the one that best matches the original. The whole process plays out live in a web app with a catalog of lost games worth reviving, side-by-side comparisons of the original and the revival, and every agent shown at work.

# Revive

Revive games that can no longer be played. Agents find surviving gameplay footage, watch all of it, and rebuild the game as a multiplayer browser game, then playtest it until it is fun and high in fidelity.

Needs Node 22, [pnpm](https://pnpm.io) and [uv](https://docs.astral.sh/uv/) (`uv` builds the Python environment). The Managed Agent squad also needs `cloudflared`.

```bash
pnpm install
pnpm run setup     # Python venv for the footage stages, plus Playwright's Chromium
pnpm dev           # http://localhost:3000
```

`.env` needs `GEMINI_API_KEY`. `GEMINI_MODEL` picks the model every stage runs on (default `gemini-4-argon`).

## How a revival runs

Each revival is a folder in `runs/<id>/`. `events.jsonl` there is the log the UI reads.

1. **Collect** (Python, `pipeline/`): `find.py` searches for long gameplay videos; `watch.py` sends every video to Gemini in one long-context call and writes `spec.json` (timeline, rules with timestamps, areas, how it played).
2. **Remake** (`pipeline/agents/main.ts`): a [pi](https://pi.dev) Builder agent writes the game in `runs/<id>/game/`, starting from the kit in `pipeline/kit/` (a zero-dependency WebSocket relay and its client). It reads `SPEC.md`, asks the footage questions (`ask_footage`, backed by `pipeline/ask.py`), and plays its own game in a real browser (`open_game`, `input`, `look`, `inspect`). `check_game` is its gate.
3. **Playtest**: each round, three pi playtesters (fun, fidelity, multiplayer) play a snapshot of th
