Core trick

Pairs a numeric EEG risk score with a visit-note reader that filters false alarms before escalating patients to clinicians.

Description

Alzheimer's drugs only work if you catch it early, but people aren't screened until symptoms are obvious -- so patients who would benefit most get missed. Canary catches them earlier by screening an EEG they already took, raising a risk flag, then reading the visit note to filter out false alarms before escalating anyone to a doctor.

**Why now:** Alzheimer's treatment now only works if you catch it early — but the
tools to catch it early haven't caught up. Canary makes an existing, underused EEG
signal safe to act on by cross-checking it against the visit note, so a clinician
knows who to look at first.

Canary takes two independent, imperfect sources of evidence about one patient — a
numeric **EEG risk flag** (from a real, small, non-LLM classifier) and a free-text
**clinical visit note** (Abridge-style, mocked & disclosed) — and an agent reasons
about whether they **corroborate or contradict** each other, then drafts the
referral / triage artifact a clinic would actually use.

Built for the *Abridge × Anthropic × Lightspeed — Agents for Healthcare Clinics*
hackathon. The honest PPV math and what was deliberately *not* built are covered
below.

## The demo in one sentence

**Two patients, the same elevated EEG flag, opposite recommendations — because the
note decides.** One note reports a memory complaint (→ **escalate**, refer); the
other explains the flag away with poor sleep and daytime sedat
