Core trick

An ADK agent fuses live boat telemetry with voice input and returns spoken tactical advice to a single-handed sailor.

Description

Sailtale is a virtual sailing coach that gives brand new student sailors quick immediate feedback and guidance to help them navigate. It aims to create a coach AI agent which is able to consume a multitude of data, similar to what a human coach would process. This simplifies the training experience for a sailing coach as it provides every single sailor in the class with an onboard tutor, accelerating their learning.

## Objective
Sailtale is an AI-powered sailing coach designed to act as a digital "brain" for single-handed sailors (such as those on ILCA dinghies), providing real-time tactical advice, navigation guidance, and optimal trim suggestions. Installed directly on the boat, it synthesizes live telemetry, voice inputs, and environmental data to guide student sailors independently, safely, and dynamically throughout their course.

## Architecture and Approach
The architecture centers around a mobile frontend HUD that visualizes the sailing environment and captures user voice data, while seamlessly interfacing with an agentic backend powered by Google's Agent Development Kit (ADK) and Gemini models. This AI brain maintains stateful conversation context and orchestrates function calls for external context, such as live weather or tide APIs. The development approach is phased: starting with a phone-only prototype relying on internal device sensors for a voice-first coaching experience, it eventually decouples the logic into a fast deterministic math engine for routing, before scaling toward fleet-wide data synchronization (Digital Twins) and hardware-integrated computer vision using Vertex AI to autonomously track wind and competitors.
