Paige
Paige is an AI-powered development environment designed to help junior engineers grow into senior engineers faster, without sacrificing real productivity.
Core trick
Turns GitHub issues into a multi-step plan from Opus planning mode, then withholds code generation so the developer implements each step.
Description
Paige is an AI-powered development environment designed to help junior engineers grow into senior engineers faster, without sacrificing real productivity.
Instead of acting like a generic code generator, Paige functions as a full workflow-driven editor: it organises and prioritises real GitHub issues, generates a multi-step implementation plan using Claude Opus 4.6 Planning Mode, and then guides the developer through investigation, implementation, verification, and reflection.
Paige adapts the level of assistance to the user’s experience, explains code in-context, recommends targeted learning materials, generates practice challenges to reinforce weak areas, and performs iterative code reviews like a senior engineer — including spotting bugs, giving actionable feedback, and generating commit messages.
The goal is simple: if AI is replacing entry-level work, Paige ensures we don’t lose the next generation of senior developers.
README excerpt
# Paige **Claude Codes, Paige Pairs.** An AI coaching tool that teaches junior developers instead of replacing them. Paige can see your code but can't write it — she _has_ to teach. Built for the [Claude Code Hackathon](https://cerebralvalley.ai/) at Cerebral Valley, February 2026. --- ## The Problem LLM coding tools are hollowing out the junior developer role. The tasks juniors used to learn on — writing boilerplate, fixing simple bugs, building CRUD — AI does them now. The data is stark: - **-20%** employment for software developers aged 22-25 since late 2022 ([Stanford Digital Economy Study](https://digitaleconomy.stanford.edu/)) - **-30%** tech internship postings since 2023, while applications rose 7% - **-5 junior hires/quarter** at AI-adopting companies — not layoffs, a hiring freeze ([Harvard](https://www.hbs.edu/)) - **7%** of Big Tech hires are new grads, down 25% from 2023 - **70%** of hiring managers believe AI can perform intern-level work Every senior engineer started as a junior. Without entry-level opportunities, the next generation of skilled professionals will never exist. ## The Solution Paige is an AI pair programmer that **cannot write code**. This isn't a limitation — it's the entire point. When you take away AI's ability to just do the work, it has to do something harder: _teach_. **What Paige does:** - **Coaches through real GitHub issues** — not toy exercises, your actual backlog - **Progressive disclosure** — you control how much help y
